SPIRITUAL WALKING

Day Course 10 am – 5 pm
by Revd. John N. Merrill

The aim of the day is to introduce to the Art of Walking the John Merrill Way. Walking is an art
form and few people appreciate actually how to walk with no effort. The day is split into two
halves. The morning is spent looking at the practicalities and the method of walking. How to go for
a walk, what equipment, how you plan and read a map, your physcological attiude to walking and
overall approach to walking. Walking is a mental exercise and not a physical one. Walking is the
only way to connect with nature and Mother Earth on its own terms and pace. And the only way to
appreicate your connectedness with with all living things, and the earth and sky. There is beauty in
every landscape both natural and man made.

The afternoon is spent doing a six mile walk, putting the various principles into practise. What to
look for, observing nature, resting against a tree, watch a stream meandering along, see the birds
and flowers. Look at the historical landscape, the buildings and churches.
