WALKING IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
Walking in the Countryside
Whether you love the modern convenience and bustle of city life or have spent most of your life enjoying the pleasures of rural living, most of us that have experienced it would agree that a walk in the countryside is one of the most invigorating and relaxing ways to spend some free time. There is something about the fresh air and open spaces of the countryside that makes us feel so much more energised and alert in the confines of the city. The benefits of walking in the countryside are therefore about much more than just fitness.

Of course walking anywhere is great for yur health; it is recommended that we all undertake at least a thirty minute brisk walk three or four times a week but many of us find it difficult to fit this in to our daily routine. But what you will find most enjoyable about walking in the countryside is the therapeutic benefits it will bring. By getting away from your normal surroundings, reconnecting with nature and the enviroment and making an effort to slow down and observe your surroundings more closely, you are likely to enjoy a profound sense of peace and wellbeing. Sharing the experience with close friends or family is a fantastic way to share some special time together and the delightful quiet of the countryside gives you a great oppurtunity to really talk and listen to each other.

For anyone that is new to hiking, it is important to make sure you have the right gear to really get the most out of this wonderful restorative pursuit. The weather can be very changeable but, unlike in the city, there might not always be a cafe or shop to duck into if the suddenly turns stormy. Of course you should always check the forecast before you set off walking and tell someone where you are going but even with these precautions it is always a good idea to carry some food and waterproof clothing just in case. Goretex make some of the best quality waterproofs and even come with a lifetime guarantee. You will also get the most out of walking in the countryside if you have a comfortable pair of good quality walking boots. When choosing boots, it is a good idea to get a pair one size bigger than your normal size. Try them with two thick socks to make sure you get the right size as this is what you will most likely wear whenever you go walking.

When you are choosing clothjing for walking, it is advisable to go for a layering system as this allows you to easily add and remove layers as the weather changes. A moisture eicking fabric is best for the base layer and a warm fleece should also be carried at most times of the year. If you are interested in combing your walks with an overnight camping stop then a good tent is a must. As a general rule of thumb, take a tent that can accomodate one more person than you need; this way you will have enough room to sleep comfortably. The best tents, such as those by Vango, will have reliable waterproof outer layers. With the best Vango tents and enough warm clothjing you can be sure of a comfortable and well deserved rest after a day of walking.
