Prince Charles Edward Stuart (The Yorng Pretender), better known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, marched through Derbyshire in 1745, in an attempt to regain the English throne for the Stuarts. He stopped at Derby, where a statue to him can be seen in Full Street. Feeling totally exposed and vunerable he retreated back to Scotland. Here his Jacobite men came to a humilitating defeat at Culloden Moor near inverness; the last battle on British soil. His story is fascinating and many of the places he stayed at can still be seen in Derbyshire today. A waymarked and descibed 20 mile walk from Ashbourne to Derby traces some of his route and Derby Museum has a room devoted to him.A5 in a plastic cover. 40 pages. 6 maps. 6 photographs.
