About this book -
One short section of the Great North Road in Nottinghamshire has changed little over six centuries. Its width is that decreed by King John who travelled the road regularly. Its rough surface is much the same as when King Richard I, Princess Margaret Tudor, King Henry VIII, Cardinal Wolsey and Dick Turpin travelled along it.

At least two of the houses remain little changed from medieval times, three have evidence of priest holes. Roman coins and pre-historic artefacts are still being found in fields bordering the road.

An eighteenth century bypass left this section a charming time capsule, redolent with tales of adventure and romance concerning the rich, the royal, the famous and infamous.
