On May 15th. 1984, John Merrill left the Atlantic Ocean at Cape Henry, near Norfolk, Virginia, to begin a 178 day walk across America. Exactly on schedule of 24 miles per day, and with 4,260 miles behind him, John reached Santa Cruz, south of San Francisco, on the Pacific Ocean. His was is the longest and hardest crossof the USA - coast to coast - in the shortest time - under six months. His route took him through twenty National parks, across deserts and over 14,000 foot high mountains. In Death Valley he literally turned right for the Pacific Ocean.
