WHITE PEAK AIRCRAFT WRECK WALKS - (The Peak District)

Scattered around the hills and dales of the White Peak and the southern half of Derbyshire are the locations of where more than thirty military planes came down. Thiese short circular walks - 4 to 8 miles long - take you on the nearest right of way to the sites. The Dam Busters Walk - takes you around Derwent and Howden Reservoirs where practice flights for that daring raid took place. Dr Barnes Wallis, the creator of the bouncing bomb, was born in Derbyshire. Another walk walk visits the graves of World War Two pilots in several Derbyshire churches. Considerable history notes cover a further forty crash sites, to give you a very comprehensive survey. Many have a memorial. They are fascinating places to discover but are also the final resting place of the gallant aircrew and respect should be shown. Take only photographs.
