The Ashover area lying outside the Peak District National Park, between Matlock and Chesterfeild, is magnificent walking country rich in history. The Babington family - famed for the illfated plot to release Mary Queen of Scots, lived in the area; the church has tombs to them. Ten walks of between 4 and 9 miles long explore the area fully bringing you to ruined halls, quiet meadows and streams, vantage points of exceptional beauty, rugged gritstone edges and tranquil reservoirs.
